Surely this is a simple misdirection?
The brief turn to hand the coin over is enough, along with the distraction of the introduction of the coin, to glance at the top number on the top die. The totals of the touching numbers on all dice plus the bottom face should be 21 minus the top number, as the opposite faces of a fair die will equal 7. Asking the volunteer to count and add what seem to be random numbers plus the extraneous roll of the dice at the end should be enough to have the audience thinking you've defeated 3 or more random permutations of numbers.

Cant edit the prev post, so here is an add-on:
The tilt of the planet Uranus's poles is the correct connection, i'm pretty sure. Saturn is a model of one of GM's cars. Pluto and darkness not connected yet, altho it is revealed in the next line of the riddle, but darkness may be related to it having the biggest distance from the sun among all the planets.
See above post, sorry. bodged the 'quote' function :/
-
Potok, in answer to your confusion over the last connection:
Darkness is as you say probably a reference to it being furthest from the Sun, Pluto was also the ninth planet in the solar system, except it's no longer classed a planet....
But yes, well done to your friend there! I'd only got as far as:
Mercury being the difference.

It's a little early in the British morning for me to function, but it seems to me
We aren't looking at the typical 'letters in one, but not the other' type riddle, but perhaps more literally... My 1st in FILLINGS but not in BRACES? Perhaps we are looking for the materials, rather than the lettering. And so on...

Oh how welcome your return is, WoS. We too look forward to the resumption of our duel... May the golden truth prove no more defense than the red truth before it.

Anyone aware of a new thread yet?? Am missing this rather a lot!!

42 is the correct answer, however, i know its not possible but what if player A mirraculously pots 15 reds in one shot and the cue ball also goes in therefor commiting a foul the ref should then give player A no points and player B 4 points. Player B then goes on to pot all remaining colours as the reds cannot be returned to the table after a foul, scores 27 giving a total aggregate score of 31!
i know this is practically impossible, but the question states 'no matter how unlikely it sounds'.
If this was to occur, play could actually stop after the pink was potted, as player B would be ahead by more than 7 points... Which makes the aggregate total 24....

Nice job Azira... I knew you had it as soon as I saw your guess, but I thought I would throw a couple out there just in case
This one laid to rest rather quickly. Good job Aziraphael.
Cheers guys! Honestly wasn't sure, thought I was stretching it to fit in places...

When does the next thread start?
Edit: Does the fact we have unlocked the Banquet means that this thread is over?
Edit 2: Wait, no. With the Witch the thread is never over! (dramatic music)
How many personalities do you have anyway?
The original Sapphire Witch is dead. Whether posession of the ring of Red Truth grants the title of Sapphire Witch is as yet unconfirmed...
I have firm suspicions as to who the 'Sapphire Witch' and the Witch of Secrets are though...

Thalia has it. Lasted longer on here than I expected!

I didn't think so
A smile?
Haha! Another good one. Was my first response when he approached me with it, but is also not what i'm looking for...
(Although by traditional riddling etiquette it is an acceptable answer, fitting the clues presented)
-
traits?
Good guessing, dD, but not what I'm looking for...

We can be inherited, in some; disarming,
maybe deceiving, at worst; alarming.
What are we?
(Posted on behalf of a non-member, apologies if this isn't new, but keywords didn't yield any fruit)

A gravestone / grave marker?

That we have 2 studies, one stored within the other.
The actual room and information on file (filing cabinet?)
Two thefts. Theft of information copied/removed (by pencil/eraser) from file/study
and later the physical theft of the ribbon from the room.
Am guessing that Librarian did not lock the room door at e.o.day, just the file.
Ribbon was stolen between the time she left and security lockdown.
Information stolen before file locked.
Yeah I know it's like Scoobydoo on acid. I'll be much happier
when someone comes up with the real answer.
Amen to that.
it has been specified though that the door was locked, and had to be unlocked at the point of Dudeney's discovery. The pencil/eraser was used to gain access to the room.
Well, that's certainly how i read it, maybe I'm being too rigid and inflexible myself?
-
The study is a written record
WoD has already classified the nature of the Study (which we have walked into ourselves). It must be a room, it has a door, a handle, a lock, and being as Dudeney is a physical prescence, he couldn't be contained within your suggestion.
However, it does occur that the passage you mention could imply
that Dudeney had been previously stored within a cupboard or storage room, prior to being removed by the Witch for the purposes of writing the events we now read.
This may or may not be important, but is worth bearing in mind.
-
EDIT: Answer removed as I hadn't read the WoD comments above.
I agree with rvc113 for the most part, but i believe we're missing something...
Miss Cox wasn't the only object required to open the door
-
I suppose, if I must - you're forgiven.
How very kind of you. Do you have any more riddles on here I can solve with my disasterously olde worlde spelling habits?
-
A bike tyre puncture?
-
I'd like to apologise for jumping the gun, I forget who sits my side of the table...
It's worth pointing out to my fellow guests that;
my attempt to ellicit a confession from the Witch was neither confirmed nor denied, we may still need to clarify the nature of Miss Cox and Ravthon further than the simple 'pencil/eraser' guess, although I strongly believe Plainglazed and I are onto something.
Anyone know if you can pick a lock with a pencil? lol
-
I say Miss Cox and Rathvon are a pencil!
Which the culprit used to "edit" the locked door.
Good call again, Plainglazed!
Now, this is more the direction I'm starting to think in!! Darn you for getting it in print before me though!
Miss Cox is a pencil, 'rigid and inflexible' who 'definitely has a point' with Rathvon as her eraser 'rubicund, flexible' and 'cleaning up after his sister's hurried statements'... The pair are inseperable, after all....
Hence the Witch worrying that using them to correct something she'd said would result in their capture.

[blue]It has been repeatedly stated that 'no human being hid in the room'. This prompts me to ask if the emphasis here is to indicate that no living beings are hidden in the room, or simply that no human is hidden there?.[/blue]

knick-knacks?
That makes the most sense so far.
