  1. So, we meet again MATOU (ESP Puzzle)!! And this time on my turf!!! HAHAHAHAHA Just kidding. I like the way you think. Many puzzles on this forum require such lateral thinking solution, but this puzzle does not! In fact this was specified in one of my first posts (first page) in this thread. It's like an unwritten (and sometimes written) rule in this forum to limit ourselves to the Original Post (OP). PS: Your remarks do make a lot of sense and the only line I would add to the OP is: "Each prisonner sees everybody in front of him in the line and everyone can hear the answers."
  2. Nice... So my method is better than the cube, but there's an even better answer (MATOU's). Love that kind of puzzles... If someonw would take the time on rendering it on some 3D modeling software, I would love to see a 3D model of Matou's method V/s mine and even V/s cube. I'm pretty sure it would become easier to see why Matou's structure maximizes more than mine. Nice puzzle superprismatic... Cheers
  3. Now I'm pretty sure about my calculation, but I'm not sure if we can maximize that distance even more. Maybe Matou's method is closer?
  4. It's a bit late for me to put more details in my solution (4:40 AM where I live) So i'm gonna settle for this and maybe "superprismatic" can tell me if I'm on the right track at least.
  5. The "11" posted by peace*out IS NOT THE ANSWER to the puzzle... It's probably a typo after the "!!". See, if you release the "shift" key while writing a lot of "!!!!!!!!", you get !!!!11

I know it's kinda late to reply on your post several months ago... But if the prisoner says: "I'll die of old age". The king will simply hang him!!!! By hanging him, he proved him wrong (he did not die of old age) and therefore he can hang him, no problem! I'm sorry dude, but you didn't get THIS one... Yet...
  7. You ARE right Greg! And on your first post too.. Good job and welcome to the den
  8. Are you sure it rained only on 13 days? I seams to me at least for 23 days... Or maybe I missed the whole point...
  9. I was away from the den a really long time... I don't know anymore if I'm working to live or just living to work!! I am very happy to see that this puzzle is still getting so much interest Just jumped in today to give a big THANK YOU to bonanova for maintaining this thread so well! I really apreciate it mate.

Thank you for your prompt reply Nayana. But I think you misread my post. I included below the original post on which I replied. The RED part is where the 3 can fit as a possibility. Is 3 a prime? If yes, then he (the 2nd friend with 7 on his forehead who sees 5 and 5) can be 7 or 3!! (5+5+3=13) and 3 does not violate the triangle property... And unless 13 is not prime, this would leave the puzzle unsolved then... No? But I reread the previous posts and Brhan actually demonstrated why 3 cannot be a possibility. Check POst#21

You cannot go above 12 for obvious reasons... but you can be 11!

    Locked thread threat!

It cannot be suicide because you are still alive... There are 2 possibilities in the future: 1- If clones will be considered as a part of us (highly unlikely): This becomes just like the case of a guy cutting his own arm off ==> not suicide nor murder 2- If the clones are considered as a seperate entity (I think so): This is murder just like killing your identical twin... And these 2 possibilities are considered assuming that the clones have their own independent thought and conscience (not in a vegetable state), otherwise you will not be even killing your clone, you just destroyed your own spare parts

When you say "travels due North". Do you mean using a compass or adapting with the sun's position???

So we're safe for now! Pfuu... I even heard another twist in the legend saying that every VISITOR to the temple has to move one disk, and when all of them are on the 3rd pole, THE END! So this would take a bit more time....

It does!! Thanks EH for your efforts, I can see this took some time...

Being the biggest power on earth suddently seems like a big disadvantage... But if the aim is to survive (bonanova), the best strategy would then be for ALL of them to miss ALL the time!!!! This will give them 100% chances of survival!! And we go back to the prisonners dilemna implications! And A should not return fire even if shot at... So if we suppose that missing intentionally is an option, they need to keep this a COLD WAR!!!!!!! And if they cannot miss intentionally, well, always shoot the strongest! Too bad!

FOLLOW UP QUESTION! An old legend tells of a Hindu temple where the pyramid puzzle might have been used for the mental discipline of young priests. Legend says that at the beginning of time the priests in the temple were given a stack of 64 gold disks, each one a little smaller than the one beneath it. Their assignment was to transfer the 64 disks from one of the three poles to another, with one important condition: a large disk could never be placed on top of a smaller one. The priests worked very efficiently, day and night. When they finished their work, the myth said, the temple would crumble into dust and the world would vanish. So when the priest will finish their work the world would seize to exist! Now the question is: When is that?
