Welcome to the Den, Helen! Hope you enjoy it here.
Jump onto some topics & let us get to know you. Logic, riddles, philosophy, murder, fun, you can find it all somewhere around here!

Though I had actually been thinking of the acolyte-type ones used in churches to both light & snuff candles. Not really "everyday" enough for your riddles usually, but does fit rather well in that specific context.
Anyhow.

campfire
Neither of those, sorry.
Sorry to be so long, I had abstracts to review for a meeting that took up all my spare time for a while, then got this flu/sinus infection thing that has been keeping me down.
On the upswing I hope though. In general announcements, if any of you are writing poster/session abstracts for a scientific meeting in the future, for the love of my sanity put in some basic statistics! One little (p<0.05) could make all the difference between me having hair & snatching my head bald.

Athena?
Nice guess, different kind of child.

Find some more illumination, sorry.

OP adds a little credence to this response - the three shepherds?

Neither of those.
This one is rather esoteric but caught my eye.
pretty literal, with some poetic license.

Shakee's got this one!
Cordial
Sugar covered fruit (cherries are popular) are coated with chocolate, then an enzyme (invertase) that was added to the sugar is allowed to "invert" the sugar to produce the liquid center.
Cordial is a synonym for polite/nice. -
a margarita in a salted glass?
Always good on a Friday night, but not the answer.
-
of paradise cake?
Afraid I'm (still!) full from a lovely dinner with friends. (I *had* to have dessert.) Not the answer this time around though.
-
Chocolate covered bacon! XD Lol, jk. More seriously, I was thinking those fried twinkles/oreos/etc. that they give at carnivals? Dip them into the batter/oil, then turn the stick upside down? Or funnel cake, perhaps?
All guaranteed to make you sick, rot your teeth, & leave you slavering for more, but alas, not the answer I'm looking for.

My first thought was cotton candy.
Nope!
Excuse me while I go find something to eat that will rot my teeth ...
