The picture has a box that can hold two dice, and has an orientation so that if someone were to hand you the box then you could distinctly talk about "the die on the side with the D" versus "the die on the side with the E", and define faces of the dice as "pointing toward the DNE" or "pointing toward the lion" when you send or receive the box. Is that what the prisoners will get in the puzzle? When a prisoner receives the dice, will he be told how many other prisoners have already had the dice? After the first prisoner guesses and two prisoners get released or get hanged, do the remaining four prisoners only need to guess which cells the remaining four prisoners are in, or do they also need to guess about the two prisoners that are now gone?

I'll say that that approach would certainly be a different way of going about it than what I did.

Find all pairs of positive integers m and n such that (n3+1) / (mn-1) is an integer, and prove you've identified them all. This was a problem I solved back in high school with a proof that could barely fit on one page, written front and back, with small handwriting. Even looking at it again now, the most elegant proof I can come up with is still pretty complex, but nevertheless sort of neat. In part, I'm sharing a tricky problem. In part, I'm wondering if there's a more elegant way of solving it than the one I came up with.

About the Framm lynch: at the time I thought Kikacat was guaranteed goodie because of the kidnap happening while she was blocked N1, and Flamebirde was cleared because of being blocked N2 while the indy was acting on Kikacat. Bonanova I thought was likely to be baddie, so in my mind Framm had to be indy by process of elimination. It always seems like the rules are straightforward and almost simple during game design, but when it comes to actually playing a game, it seems like there's better than 50/50 odds that a misunderstanding at some point will throw a monkey wrench into the works.
-
I'm not sure about that.
-
It looks like it will bring a tie with whoever you don't kill when Kikacat blocks Flame. I abstain, as my vote won't change the outcome.
-
What happens if two players from different factions are left going into a day phase? This is often an area in which special rules apply, rather than having both players vote for each other and making the game's outcome depend on a coin flip to see which of them gets lynched.
-
Just great. Now my spreadsheet has a divide by zero error. If Bonanova will be taken care of, I guess I get to try to decide who Flame's going to kidnap.
-
Will an action appear in the NP if the player attempting the action is blocked? And did the indy attempting to kidnap Kikacat appear in the NP? (While Flamebirde was blocked)
-
If that were true, how'd the indy's action appear in the N2 post while Flame was blocked?
-
1. Flamebirde - voting for Kikacat 4. bonanova - voting for plasmid 5. Kikacat123 - voting for Bonanova 6. plasmid - voting for Framm 7. Framm18 - voting for Flamebirde If Bonanova and Framm are the baddie and indy, then I think Framm's more likely the indy. Mostly because he came out accusing Flamebirde of being indy and self-trapping right off the bat. Something that you would be more likely to do if you were indy and had thought through the indy's strategy, and wanted to lynch someone else as indy for self-trapping and have him flip good so that you could get away with self-trapping later in the game without raising suspicion.
-
In fact, looking back, Magic didn't post the voting roster which would have had Kikacat muted if she were kidnapped. She might have been kidnapped during the whole day phase and supposed to be unable to post. And since Flame couldn't be the indy if he were blocked and the kidnap happened, I'd like to get a chance to change my vote if Kikacat is kidnapped.

Does the save protect from kidnapping? It would be odd of it does, but you have a good point.
-
exactly! If it's all the same to you, I'd rather not leave the votes as they are at the moment. How about we lynch Flamebirde now, and ask Framm and Bonanova who Sally will end up blocking during Night 3? They're not allowed to both answer the same target. Whoever actually has the block will prognosticate correctly, and whoever doesn't gets lynched.
-
Allright. I claim Santa. If you don't believe me, and if you don't lynch me now, you can ask that I be blocked Night 3. Santa's save won't appear. If I were not Santa, there would be no good reason for the real Santa to not use the save, so when it fails to appear you will be able to know that it must have failed to appear because I got blocked. Edit: added "when it fails to appear"

If you lynch the baddie now, unless you know for sure that Jack is still alive, you have a very good chance of making the indy achieve his wincon and thereby making the goodies lose the game. If you lynch the indy now, you have the chance to hunt down the baddie in the next lynch. We know the block is still alive, so they can also try to block someone on Night 3 and see if either the save or the baddie kill doesn't appear in the night post. Just to make sure (because sometimes this isn't the case): Is the baddie's kill blockable?
-
There's a very good reason not to vote for the baddie candidate right now. The indy's wincon is to outlive both the goodie redirect and the baddie. If he does that, then the game ends with a win for the indy and a loss for the goodies. There is a fairly good chance that Phil was the goodie redirect. If Phil was the redirect and we lynch the baddie now, the indy wins and we lose. The goodie wincon (updated in post #4) is to kill both the indy and the baddie. If the goodie redirect is dead, that means we have to kill the indy first.

1. Flamebirde 4. bonanova 5. Kikacat123 6. plasmid - voting for Flamebirde 7. Framm18 - voting for Bonanova 2. BMAD - lynched as mayor 3. phil1882 - killed N1 Well Flame, you got blocked and the indy didn't do any kidnapping. Now that you're not kidnapped, you're free to talk.

Thanks, kukupai. I haven't fully worked out the equations, but I don't think that's it.

Do the Sane have BTSC? If one of the Sane is killed and MPD takes over that ability, does he join their BTSC and does his wincon also change to be the same as the Sanes? I'm guessing if they release a Patient or the Hypochondriac, the released player leaves the game. What happens if they try to release a baddie? Depending on those answers, I might PM you with an analysis of strategies and their consequences that I shouldn't really post in the thread.

Would anyone who's able to access the image be able to attach it as a figure? From the description, I'm not sure what the cables are whose distance needs to be minimized.

The role of players who are killed at night is generally not shown. Having some of the players out of the game with their roles still unknown makes it possible for baddies to try to claim that they have a dead goodie's role, and therefore not risk being counterclaimed. In games where the baddies have a player with a spy ability, it's a common move to spy the player they're killing in order to be able to safely claim the dead player's role in the future without being counterclaimed. The role of players who get lynched is generally shown. This allows goodies to draw conclusions based on who voted to lynch a goodie, or in games where there are multiple baddies, who was unduly reluctant to lynch someone that turned out to be a baddie.

Maybe. Howzabout posting the OP so we can check the design out? Unless it has a ton of secret rules, it's usually good practice to have people look it over and offer opinions on things like balance, and check for any mechanics that could foreseeably lead to undesirable scenarios (like stalemates or massive outing).

Framm's trying to paint you as indy based on the argument that, since the indy's wincon is to outlive two other roles, the strategy that would make the most sense would be to continuously self-kidnap so you can't be killed at night or lynched during the day. In one of my posts earlier I argued that I think he's biting too hard on that idea, and it seems equally likely that a new player is the indy and just kidnapped someone randomly, or that an experienced player is the indy and trying to frame you. If Phil wasn't the block (which he probably wasn't) then it might be nice if the block flips a coin to decide whether to block you tonight. If you get blocked and the indy's kidnap still happens, you would be cleared. But if you're not the indy, I wouldn't want the real indy to know for sure whether you're going to be blocked because if they know you will be blocked they would just not act, so you would be framed. If Phil wasn't the redirect, then it would definitely be nice if you got redirected, no coin flip needed. If the kidnap doesn't happen on who they redirect you to, then you would be cleared. And if you're not the indy, then the real indy wouldn't know who you're going to get redirected to and couldn't intentionally act on that person to try to frame you. (Of course, the redirect could only discern anything if you don't get blocked.) Edit: changed "to" to "too"
