substituting the dice with a, b, c: the list becomes abacbcbcac? The next one could be any of the three, logically but it seems as if they are grouped into groups of 4. That should make the next one b, the second of the dice shown.

If you group them in pairs and use A,B,C labels like LighthouseGal did, then they pair off: (AB)(AC)(BC) then reverse the order (BC)(AC)(AB), so the next one in line should be A or:

KillerGuns is right if you look at the top row it goes;

*1 **2 ***3 ****4 *****5 ***3

so the next one is ::: to make it 6

Can you clarify why this would be correct? Your explanation is not clear.

Look at this. I have added the last dice and highlighted to show the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.
