Pouring water III. - Back to the Water and Weighing Puzzles
Given three bowls: 7, 4 and 3 liters capacity. Only the 7-liter is full. Pouring the water the fewest number of times, make the quantities of 2, 2, and 3 liters.

Three numerals in each number stand for litres in each bowl:
700 - 340 - 313 - 610 - 601 - 241 - 223 (overspilling 6 times)

Twice: 7 liter into the 3 liter leaving 4 in the 7 liter container. Then pour half of whats left "4" into the last 4 liter container so you have 3-2-2. Thus two pours.

in these puzzles you cant pour a fraction of a bowl...that wouldnt be much of a puzzle now would it?

this is what i got in 5 pours:(using the same 3-digit code)

you can't do 133 without doing 430...
i did 700, 403, 430, 133, 142, 520, 223.

Assuming jars are 7 - 3 - 4 based on your first pour, your fourth pour goes out of sequence (which would mean you have 4 in your 3 jar! You would need to pour the 1 in the 4 into the 3. this effectively is the same as the admin's answer.

You can't go from 142 to 520. There's a 502 step in between, which makes it seven steps.

You can't pour *half* of the 4 liters into another bowl, because you have no way of accurately measuring a half. You must pour entire bowl-fulls.

I had to register just to post this answer. It is three pours:

From the 7, pour into the 4 and 3 (leaving the 7 empty). Then pour half of the four into the 7, leaving 2 liters in the 7, 2 liters in the 4 and 3 liters in the 3.

700, 340, 043, 223
