Question

A girl took a seat on her piano stool

And wondered what to play.

To write a song, she needed me,

To help her know what to say.

In two ways I helped the girl

As she put some me on her page.

She touched me gently, as she gave it a whirl,

And started to set the stage.

I came forth as she closed her eyes,

Her music from the heart,

I was just a few words and her ivory keys.

But she must remember this part.

So she jotted me down with a few quick strokes,

A message and a song.

Whatever it was she wrote in her book

I was never meant to be long.

inspiration, or divine inspiration

PS are you sure that this thing we are looking for "helped her know" what to do and is not therefore what she produced but an aid or an assistance? that is how the first verse reads.

Sure! This is an artists' riddle, therefore very artistic, not so cut and dry. But here ya go:

A girl took a seat on her piano stool

And wondered what to play.

To write a song, she needed me,

To help her say what she'd say. I just adjusted it thusly

In two ways I helped the girl She wrote notes (words) on the page, and played notes (music) on her piano

As she put some me on her page.

She touched me gently, as she gave it a whirl,

And started to set the stage. Nothing elusive, just a way to say "Paint a picture/write a song"

I came forth as she closed her eyes,

Her music from the heart,

I was just a few words and her ivory keys. (a few words=notes)

But she must remember this part. When writing a song, it helps to jot down your ideas before you forget them (some notes)

So she jotted me down with a few quick strokes,

A message and a song. Again, the double meaning of note

Whatever it was she wrote in her book

I was never meant to be long.

Aww dang. I just finished my explanation. Oh well. Good.

no thanks for this, I think it's a great riddle and definitely one for the book

I also figured this out

But she must remember this part. When writing a song, it helps to jot down your ideas before you forget them (some notes)

YOU ALSO SAY "NOTE THIS" FOR "REMEMBER THIS"

Oooh, good point. I was going to take a whole Memento approach to this. I can't believe I already forgot. Thanks for seeing that.
