you kidnapped the girl. thought you got away, but were under surveillance and are now watching the video of the kidnapping.

UK - the show was known for its way of solving almost impossible scenarios (btw it was a drama)

Well that explains why I can't think of any US shows that have this scenario. :)

The person you are with is the kidnapper. You are the girl. You saw yourself in the mirror 5 minutes earlier. You were kidnapped and this was taped. You are now watching your kidnapping on the DVD.

My guess

The riddle never specifies that the DVD was a video of the kidnapping - only that someone turned on the player and you then saw a kidnapping. The girl turned on the DVD player and stayed in the room. Then she was kidnapped five minutes later.

Five minutes is a long time. you saw the girl on the street she was kidnapped. the whole thing was recorded with a DVD cam then the DVD was put in the player for you to see. That could all be done in three min. How about you just passed the kidnapped girl in the hall as you walked in and saw a television playing a real recording of her kidnapping.
