Dragon Illusion

If we move around when viewing a solid object, our brain knows how the object we are looking at should behave. However the dragon gives us the wrong clues, because we mis-interpret what its shape is. We assume that the nose of the dragon is pointing out towards us, but in fact the dragon's head is concave.

Not sure why they keep refering to it as the hollow face effect, but in reality our brains cannot handle depth perception at certain angles and light. If you are colour blind this can be see almost every night.

Think of a straight street with yellow lights lighting up the street, now lets say the traffic light/signal is red, for a colour blind person it will look yellow, so if the inclination of the street is such a way that the street lights far away matches that of the traffic signal, then the colour blind person cannot know where the traffic light is or he cannot guage it. It is a similar effect with the hollow face as we do not have a frame of reference for the shadows to see the depth, so when a mask is "kept in the light" we think that it is pointing to the front.
