Easy :D

there are only 3 people to begun with. a grandpa, a dad, and his son.

the grand pa has one son, and one grand son.

thus the dad is a father and a son.

so there are only 3 people fishing :D

there

I think that this could be made even better with:

Two fathers and two sons went on a sunday afternoon fifhing trip. They ALL caught 1 fish.

Therefore they all had one. When they got home, there were only 2 fish. None had been dropped or forgotton.

How is this possible?

easy, only two people went fishing. both men have kids as well as having fathers of their own. thus both men are fathers of their own kids and children of their fathers. but none of these men's children or fathers came on the trip, just the two men.

Two fathers and two sons does not necessarily mean they are all related. They all caught a fish, but what if one father had two sons present and the other father went without family present? Upon arriving home, there would still be three fish and the fourth would be elsewhere.

Since the grandfather and father are both fathers and sons, the third person must have been a woman in order to keep 3 fish, you did not say that the 2 fathers and 2 sons were the only ones there.

So Grandpa (old man), grandson (young boy), and his father (younger man/boy's father) -essentially 3 generations- went on this trip. Technically this is 2 fathers & 2 sons...Grandfather is father #1 and his son is also a father. Technically there are also 2 sons....young boy is his father's son, and his father is Grandpa's son. So although only 3 ppl are on the trip, the 4 titles (2 fathers, 2 sons) exist. Each person caught 1 fish...3 ppl x 1 fish= 3 fish! Right?
