Guest
Here's two of them for you: 5 + 5 + 5 = 550 Add just one match/line/stroke to make the equation true. 7 + 1 = 5 - 1 Move one symbol/number/sign to make this equation true. 0 Guest
5 + 5 + 5 != 550 (i.e. changing the equal sign to unequal ...) Always a good idea with these types of problems. However, that's not the best answer. Let's say you want to make the two sides of the equations equal to each other rather than just make the equations true. 0 Guest
For the first one, put a line from the top to the left of the first plus sign, thus making the equation: 545 + 5 = 550 For the second one, move the plus and minus signs. As far as the second one is concerned, you have to move one whole sign (or number/character/whatever) and only one.
0 Guest
Can you move the | from the + and add it to the - ? as in : 7 - 1 = 5 + 1 or is that way too easy, ergo not the right way to go about it Edited March 19, 2008 by azrael

0 Guest
for the second one, take the 7, flip it upside down, put it on top of the 1 then it reads +4 = 5 -
0 Guest
7 + 1 = 5 - 1 Move one symbol/number/sign to make this equation true. 7 + 1 = 5 - 1 move the vertical match on the plus and put it on the minus presto! 7-1=5+
0 Guest
7 + 1 = 5 - 1 move the vertical match on the plus and put it on the minus presto! 7-1=5+1 Sorry, you can't break apart the plus sign, you would have to move the whole thing. Flip that seven! strykr1a0's solution also works.
0 Guest
I thought the first one was harder, but after reading the first bunch of replies, I didn't see an answer for 2nd makes plus sign on left a minus sign, make minus on right side a plus using match from left side
0 Guest
I don't know why everyone wants to keep breaking apart my plus sign. What do you people have against addition? Leave the plus sign alone! I've had it, just leave it alone! Bullies. You need to move a complete symbol or number, not just part of one. The matchsticks that make the plus sign are glued together.
