My first thought was a chemical of sorts and the only I can think of is........CO2. Carbon Dioxide is my answer......I think lol

I think the concept is supposed to be there is less atmospheric pressure in the poles so it is colder and therefore polar bears have white hair or something like that.

To look at the actual pressure, you have to be in it. If you are in the pressure, it will make you pop. Of course, you can't see the pressure even if you are looking at it, only the results of the pressure, so whatever.

is it pressure??? i'm not sure if this is right, but polar bears live at the poles, so that might be the pressure that makes them white, and you might cry under pressure, and pressure makes girls comb their hair...

If the right answer is no, then by saying you cannot solve the riddle,you are actually solving the riddle, thus creating a paradox. I honestly don't see how pressure fits some of the verses, but I think Terry71's answer is pretty good.
