Question

Albert is a keen dog admirer and over the years has had a number of dogs. He has had an Alsatian, a Dalmatian, a Poodle and a Great Dane, but not necessarily in that order. Albert had Jamie first. The Dalmatian was an adored pet before the Great Dane. Sammy, the Alsatian, was the second dog Albert loved. Whitney was housed before the Poodle and Jimmy was not a Great Dane. Can you tell each of the dogs' name and the order in which Albert had them?

At first I thought there was the number by which he got them and also the order of who he loved best, took me a while till I finally concluded that "second dog Albert loved" meant the second dog he had, or is it really his second favorite and not second in order?

Anyways:

By Order:

Jamie the Dalmatian

Sammy the Alsatain

Whitney the Great Dane

Jimmy the Poodle

azna is correct...

i see it like this:

the dalmatian had to be before the great dane.

the Poodle has to be last, since whitney was put before the Poodle and nr.1 and nr.2 names are already given.

logic concludes that if the poodle is last, the second is given and the dalmatian is before the great dane, than there is no other way than:

1 - Dalmatian , Jamie

2 - Alsatian , Sammy

3 - Great Dane, Whitney

4 - Poodle, Jimmy

sorry, spoilers don't work at school

Jamie = 1

Sammy = 2

Whitney = 3

Jimmy = 4

Dalmatian = 1

Alsatian = 2

Great Dane = 3

Poodle = 4

n: name, p: pet

(1) pDalmatian = pGreatDane - (1, 2 or 3)

(2) nWhitney = pPoodle - 1

(3) nWhitney = 3

(4) pPoodle = 4

(5) nJimmy = 4

(1modified) pDalmatian = pGreatDane - 2

(1modified) pDalmatian = 3 - 2

First - Jamie - Poodle

Second - Whitney - Dalmatian

Third - Sammy - Alsatian

fourth - Jimmy - Great Dane

I haven't looked at the spoilers yet so here's my guess

Jamie the Dalmatian, Sammie the Alsatian, Whitney the Great Dane, and Jimmy the Poodle.
