What mathematical symbol can be placed between 5 and 9, to get a number greater than 5 and smaller than 9?

Clever. I initially thought of this 5 > 9, but there's not really a number there. 5 > x > 9 would be more appropriate I guess.

i saw a similar problem before, except the numbers were adjacent and they were 2 and 3 (2.3)

Wow! I never thought it to be so simple! I was thinking of all sorts of logarithms.

BTW, the sqrt symbol between doesn't work.

No, this would not actually work. It would translate to five times the square root of nine. Since the square root of nine is three, the value would then be fifteen, which is not less than nine.

Pretty good...but i could of sworn it said mathmatical operator when I read it the first time, and not mathmatical symbol....

Hi IM New and i just luv ur puzzles.. This was quite good. even though i solve it ok... isnt it u can put a square root sign on the 9... or a point between the 5 and teh 9... Love it :lol:
