What is the max amount of money that

contestant can win on the game show jeopardy.

umm... i don't watch much, so i hope i've got the game right. 6 categories of 100-500 clues (100 increments) in round 1 with a daily double. then 6 categories of 200-1000 (200 increments) in round 2 with a daily double? then the question at the end.

if you hit the daily double at the end of the first round on a 100 question, you can have 8900 points and double up to 17800. you can get 17800 (double 8900) from round to total 35600 then double up to 71200. Then wager it all at the end and wind up with 142400?

Well, round 1 is 200-1000 now, so...

Assuming that the DD's are always on the lowest clue (so that you can trade 200/400 for a true daily double), we have...

Round 1 (1 daily double): ((200+400+600+800+1000)*5 - 200)* 2 = 29,600

Round 2 (2 daily doubles): ((400+800+1200+1600+2000)*5 - 400 - 400)*2*2 = 29200*4 = 116,800

Total: 146,400

Final Jeopardy: 146,400*2 = 292,800

The last post was close, but you forgot that the round one score carries over. So...

Round One

6*1000+6(800)+6(600)+6(400)+5(200)= 17800(True Daily double yields $35,600 going into commercial break number 2...

Round Two

6*2000+6(1600)+6(1200)+6(800)+4(400)= 35200+round one = $70,800 THEN the two daily doubles quadruples this to $283,200

and finally the final jeopardy doubles this once again to a final total of...

$566,400

I think there are 6 topics in each round (could be wrong). Also, keep in mind that you are also doubling your full total each time...

Round 1 (1 daily double): ((200+400+600+800+1000)*6 - 200)* 2 = 35,600

Round 2 (2 daily doubles): ((400+800+1200+1600+2000)*6 - 400 - 400 + 35,600)*2 = 141,600*2 = 283,200

Total: 283,200

Final Jeopardy: 283,200*2 = 566,400

If you won every clue and had the daily doubles on the last pick first round and the last 2 picks on the second round, doubled your money on all DD and final Jeopardy, it would be $544,000.00 in one game. I did the math in pen on a matchbook....lol

Don't forget folks that Daily Doubles only appear on the third, fourth, or fifth clue. At least, that's the impression I get and I watch a lot of Jeopardy.

Well the question was "what was the max amount", so I have to agree with others. Plus, once in a great while they actually DO put the Daily Double in the lowest denomination clue. Of course they never would do it 3 times, and even if they did, the odds of one person hitting all 3 at the very end of each round is very remote. With that in mind, I think you have to just go with the theoretical answer which is......

$566,400.00

6 categories per round.

1st round: $200-1000 clues, 1 daily double --> $17,800 * 2 = $35,600 after round 1

2nd round: $400-2000 clues, 2 daily doubles --> ($35,200 + $35,600) * 4 = $283,200 total after round 2

Final Jeopardy Total: $283,200 * 2 = $566,400
