This is so easy, he has an umbrella when it rains to go up but in the mornings he is short enough to reach the low floors's buttons. :P ;) :o

Another fully satisfactory answer to the problem is that the elevator simply does not go to the 10th floor, but maxes out at the 7th. There is no mention that the man goes to the lobby in the morning directly from his floor, and rain is merely a ploy in this answer. It is another "truly satisfying" answer.

In addition, the given answer acknowledges the man's intelligence in his ability to use tools, yet deliberately dumbs him down to be unable to plan for the daily button challenge. If the man was reliant upon an umbrella, would it not be reasonable to assume that he would always bring a tool to press the button? Such as a retractable pointer of sorts?

he is short so when he is in the elevator with someone else he can ask them to press the button
and also he can press it with his umberella :)

I can't agree with your answer. Because how can he predict whether it will rain in the evening or not(if it didn't rain in the morning) So there can be days even though it rains he couldn't take his umbrella.
And if he's that short he should know to carry anything to press the buttons everday since he knows the circumstances :)

I think that this is a fairly simple problem.... The man is not rude (like most people are), and if someone else is in the elevator, he doesn't want to make them walk up stairs too, and if it is raining out, then he doesn't want to walk up three flights of stairs because when you walk up that many stairs, you get very, very cold...

See? simple

OBVIOUSLY THE MAN IS A LITTLE PERSON AND WOULD HAVE TROUBLE REACHING THE HIGHER LEVEL BUTTONS.
