I have heard the one of someone is dead in the middle of a desert , and naked ,save for a small package.

Lets assume dead actually means broke and the desert is actually refering to Las Vegas. He might be trying to get 53 bicycle brand cards so he would have that one extra to cheat with.

yup - you got it.
I actually spelled dessert wrong (it is supposed to be desert) but the answer remains the same no matter how you spell it.
