A friend of mine created this clever puzzle:

 

 

 

3=20. 4=15. 5=12. 6=10. 8=7.5. 10=6.

But could you put it in a more "everyday" practical way? What you say points to something more specific that makes the solution a bit more fascinating I guess (at least it was for me :-)
