Even though used on a calculatur it's the "carrot top," powers of numbers do not have it in the solution. In other words, you can use powers.

...First of all, you must you each of the "2's" and 2nd, the negative sign can't be used.

It seems to me that if the only possibility is using powers and that you must use all 3, then the answer would be 4 different numbers

222

222

222

222 ...hopefully this came out ok...it is 2 to the 2 to the 2

I'll think about it a little longer to see if I can do something else to get more numbers

Sorry I`m confused, two is two, 2 is a symbol of two?

I think the question is to come up with different numbers using only three 2's with no other symbol.

Have a look at EventHorizon's post above.

I'll assume that the decimal point has been ruled out - being a symbol.

However, if it were allowed, there'd be 27 additional answers.

Bonanova, and all,

Some symbol issue here for me

symbols are the numerals used to represent numbers.

Problem is as jword put it all forms of character/number/cipher etc are symbols

variable ...A symbol whose value can change.

Does not the 2 represent a symbol

.2.2 .2

also the . is a symbol too.

Though I did seem to be 'morbidly curious'

So how do you write without using a medium?

So now I see the connection LIS, morbid and medium, you suggesting we have a seance to resolve this?

That's a lot of distance to reach, have to be vrtual i think!

Or do you need to hold someone's hand Mr Touchyfeely ?

How many numbers can you make with three two's, not using symbols?

If square roots and log can be used, any integer N can be expressed with only three two's by:

Any integer N can be expressed by:

(N = number of square roots; logarithms in base 2)

simbals perhaps - Ta-da-dshiimb! or however the sound goes!

Shall we sart a thread on written sounds?

Interesting thread if you could start it (by the way, been away a while, I´ll never volunteer to carry ´THE TORCH´again, )

In England --as we say in Spain--- we use the written word ´fart´to describe a particular bodily noise, however the same sound descriptively written in Japanese is ; " The sound of a thousand butterfly wings simultaneously flapping and landing on a marble slab".
