Not a ski, as I think the mechanism to attach a ski to the boot would have a similar mechanism at the toe and the heel. The second stanza talks of a steel toe, while such a heel would be unheard of.

Oh the idea about the absurd heel regarding a ski was that you shouldn't lean back while skiing, it actually is absurd. Leaning back = pressure on your heel
