The title had me thinking along the lines of "utter madness".
More specifically, I'd say either a delusion, or perhaps a lie. (It sort of fits with the "I'm not a ..." theme)
And if I'm wrong, then I blame it on too much Mafia influencing my thought process.

You're good at picking up deception, and this riddle is no exception.
