He can't keep the she-goat and the cabbage together (because the she-goat would eat it), nor the she-goat with the wolf (because the she-goat would be eaten).

So, he'd have to:
1) take the she-goat across; leaving the wolf and cabbage
(row back)
2) take the cabbage across; leaving the wolf
(row back along with the she-goat; leaving the cabbage on the destination side)
3) take the wolf across; leaving the she-goat
(row back ALONE this time; leaving the wolf and cabbage on the destination side)
4) finally, take the she-goat across; leaving no one

1) Take goat first-drop her off
2) Go get cabbage
3) Exchange goat for cabbage
4) Take the goat back and swap the goat for the wolf
5) Take the wolf to the other side and drop it off
6) Go back and get the goat and ferry her to the other side to rendezevous with the cabbage and the wolf- WHEW! Too much work. :P

Okay, you are crossing from side A to side B. You take the she goat across to side B, then go back to side A, and bring the wolf across to side B. When going back to side A, bring the she goat with, to save her from harm. Once on side A, leave the she goat and take the cabbage back across to side B, where the wolf waits. Then leave the wolf and cabbage on side B and go back for the she goat. After you make it across to side B, you can continue along on your journey.

Is that right?

Answer: Get the she-goat and move her across the river, return and get the cabbage, return with the she-goat, get the wolf to the other side, go back and get the she-goat from the other side.

I thought it interesting that it was a she goat specifically. However, I'm going with this. Guy carries the cabbage in boat, goat follows in the water to chase the cabbage, the wolf follows in the water to chase the goat till arriving at the other side, a huge fight breaks out and you have a pile of coleslaw.....

<!-- s:?: --><!-- s:?: --> Can't you just take the wolf and the cabbage over together, the cannage does not wiegh much and does not take up any space so you can take them over together then go back and take the goat.

what if its a BLOODY GREAT BIG CABBAGE, mind you if it was BLOODY GREAT BIG CABBAGE then the wolf would pass out from the smell (cuz of its gd smelling capabilities) then the farmer has freedom to take them back and forth as he pleases, assuming he hasn't passed out as well
