superprismatic
Inspired by Arsalan Masood's puzzle "Unknown Operations", I make my own modest offering: Replace each of A, B, C, D, E, F, G, and H with an operation from the set {×,+,-} to make 1A2B3C4D5E6F7G8H9 = 127. No other symbols or operations are allowed. Evaluation uses standard operator precedence, i.e., multiplications are evaluated before any addition or subtraction is done. Additions and subtractions are then evaluated from left to right with equal precedence. As an example, 1-2+3×4×5+6-7×9 would evaluate to 2. Inspired by Arsalan Masood's puzzle
"Unknown Operations", I make my own
modest offering:
Replace each of A, B, C, D, E, F, G, and H
with an operation from the set {×,+,-} to
make 1A2B3C4D5E6F7G8H9 = 127. No other
symbols or operations are allowed.
Evaluation uses standard operator
precedence, i.e., multiplications are
evaluated before any addition or
subtraction is done. Additions and
subtractions are then evaluated from
left to right with equal precedence.
As an example, 1-2+3×4×5+6-7×9 would
evaluate to 2.
