There was this poor guy who couldn't afford anything to buy for his girlfriend. One day he was at his friend's store hanging out and there was a beautiful vase that fell and broke into pieces. His friend wanted to throw it out because it was now worthless, but this poor guy asked his friend if he could wrap it around like a gift as a favor. His plan was to go to his girlfriend's house and pretend to fall and pretend as if it broke right then and there! So he was going on with his plan and after he fell he pretended to be upset that his gift broke and his girlfriend tried to calm him down and she said lets open it and see how bad the damage really is. Right after she opened up the present, the poor man quickly ran away from the door really embaressed. What was it he saw in the gift wrap that made hime run away?

When the vase fell the first time - it was lying open. But when the vase fell the 2nd time - it was wrapped in a gift paper. There has to be a difference in breakage pattern when an item (vase) falls when lying open & when in a package.

Out of kindness, his friend had wrapped a new, unbroken vase. When the man saw that he broke an intact vase that he could have given as a gift, he was ashamed and ran away
