Question

Once I was in conflict with

Your winning more than twice.

But now I am beginning

To ignore all your advice.

Starting out with nothing,

It's easy to lose one's face.

Now and then, from beginning to end

You end up fallen from grace.

For who is the center of attention,

It never much mattered to me.

So one for one, none for all

Has become your chosen finale.

Once I was in conflict with --
in conflict = flic, nfli,...no real words.

Your winning more than twice.

But now I am beginning --
beginning to ignore=??

To ignore all your advice.

Starting out with nothing, --
start of nothing= not, lose one face= ot (-n)

It's easy to lose one's face.

Now and then, from beginning to end --
=ne, ye...

You end up fallen from grace.

For who is the center of attention, --
like before, tent

It never much mattered to me.

So one for one, none for all --
dont know

Has become your chosen finale.

Please tell me if I am going completely the wrong direction, and I will let this go. (If I am on the right track, it doesn't really seem like your style - so I must be on the wrong track.)

Taking every second letter, starting with n, for the first verse, yields this:

news no fit ih

or inn mr ta tie.

lol

I think MrsP was right to look in "conflict" for an answer, or a step to the answer... I want to try more stuff, but I have to go! =(

but I was thinking that the beginning might be a word repeated 3 times?(i.e., thrice is 'more than twice') The 2nd, 3rd and 5th stanzas all look like they could be ways to remove letters with the 4th maybe being a reversal. I just can't think of a good starting spot...

first verse:

in conflict with = against

winning more than twice qualifies as a streak

ERGO, you're against streaking!

Edit for - & now my brain's on a gazillion wrong tracks, but I'm still otherwise filled with mirth. We'll see if I can think of anything *real* later!

Not yet you guys. And t_l, I've got nothing against streaking but others might if it was me.

Once I was in conflict with

Your winning more than twice. - N, or IN (both of which are in conflict), or INN

But now I am beginning - A

To ignore all your advice.

Starting out with nothing,

It's easy to lose one's face. - THING

Now and then, from beginning to end

You end up fallen from grace. - G, or RACE (race goes from beginning to end)

For who is the center of attention, - TENT

It never much mattered to me.

So one for one, none for all

Has become your chosen finale.

Inn, Thing, Race, and Tent can all afford to lose a letter: In, Thin, Ace, Ten, which leaves behind: N, G, R, T

Overall:

GRANT?

You grant advice, you take grants if you have no money and need it, but I don't get the other verses
