At the end of 6th grade, students take placement tests for math and science. HS science courses aren't offered until 8th grade, but in 7th, you can start taking HS math. Entering freshmen (who went to my school) would be taking junior math and sophomore science. ..But I switched counties and got screwed because the science requirement was different, meh.

Over the summer? That sucks. =/ In my middle school, they just let us take HS classes based on ability. :D

Just work. I have to write about 15 pages total on The Great Gatsby (not much, you get used to it), and be ready for a history test the first week of school covering the first three chapters. Never heard of governor's school.
